Description:
The panel was part of an altarpiece depicting The Dispute in the Temple (Christ Among the Doctors) now in Berlin (Gemäldegal.), painted by Mazzolino in 1524 for Caprara chapel in San Francesco, Bologna. It is related to the Adoration of the Shepherds, also in the Pinacoteca, Bologna, which served as a predella. Mazzolino was the pupil of Lorenzo Costa, and has the same archaizing tendency.
