Description:
There was a wonderful variety of Roman funerary monuments that once adorned the sides of the famous Via Appia. This statue was found in the Moroni Vineyards, on one side of the road, a site that provided the antiquarian Francesco Ficoroni with over 100 Latin memorial epitaphs. The man is depicted as scholar with a book and pensive attitude.
