Description:
|
Part of the 2015 "Pompeii" exhibit which featured over 220 archaeological artifacts, most from the Naples National Archaeological Museum. The exhibit was designed to immerse viewers in settings of every day life in Pompeii, complete with state-of-the-art visual effects and soundscapes. Athletes competed naked and initiated battle by grabbing the opponent’s arms. In this fragment, the floor is curiously depicted far below the athletes’ feet. This detail belongs to a larger fresco painting, but unfortunately, the context is unknown. (Source: Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; http://www.mmfa.qc.ca/)
