Originally part of the "Angeli" (Angels) exhibit (17th May, 2014, to 15th January, 2015) organized by the Opera Primiziale Pisana, the exhibition by Igor Mitoraj was part of a program to celebrate the 950th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of Pisa Cathedral. The large Fallen Icarus was still installed on the Piazza dei Miracoli as of 2017. The placement of Mitoraj’s works in an environment of such cultural and historical significance has been ongoing; in 2011 he exhibited at the Valley of Temples in Agrigento, Sicily. In 2016 30 sculptures were exhibited at Pompeii.
