Description:
|
One of many small panels (in private collections) creating by layering colored glass (in this case, purple and white), engraving it and painting it in grisaille (gray scale). During his last 30 years Chagall mastered stained glass, for which he adapted ancient techniques of hand-painting on the glass before firing, and with which he depicted both religious and secular subjects. The intensities of color that he achieved with the technical support of the stained-glass artist Charles Marq enriched his work in other media.
