Description:
|
From the exhibit "Alice Neel. Painter of Modern Life," March 4-September 17, 2017. From a private collection, on loan to Tate Modern, London. Neel was known for her portraits depicting friends, family, lovers, poets, artists and strangers. Her paintings have an expressionistic use of line and color, psychological acumen, and emotional intensity. Jane Wilson (April 29, 1924-January 13, 2015) was an American painter associated with both landscape painting and expressionism. Her husband John Jonas Gruen (September 12, 1926-July 12, 2016) (né Jonas Grunberg) was a leading American photographer, composer, art critic, author, and art historian.
