Description:
The male head from Athienou, Cyprus, near the important Phoenician town of Golgoi, probably depicts a priest of the Aphrodite cult, as witness his rich and brightly colored crown of laurel leaves and berries intertwined with pomegranate buds. The sharp lines of the face, the large almond-shaped eyes and the smiling mouth place the head in the classical-Cypriot style of the 5th century BCE.
