Description:
Palazzo Atemps was built by Girolamo Riario, lord of Imola and Forlì and nephew (or son) of Pope Sixtus IV, on the occasion of his wedding with Caterina Sforza (1477). The design of the palace was entrusted to Melozzo da Forlì and finished in 1480. This room dates from that period. The fresco on the western wall is a painted illusion (trompe l'oeil) of a colonnade next to a masonry of colored marble slabs and a late-Gothic tapestry with vegetal patterns, recognizable botanically, suspended at half height. It is also represented a sideboard or "plate" (which gives the room its name), with tablecloth, cups, tiles, pots and pewter (or silver) plates, probably the representation of tableware (or wedding gifts), used for the wedding of Girolamo Riario and Caterina Sforza.
