Statue of Apoxyomenos (the one who cleanses) which represents a young athlete in the act of taking off, with a strigile, a layer of oil, which was spread abundantly on the skin before athletic games. Roman copy (Claudian period, 41-54 CE) from an original bronze of Lysippos of 320-310 BCE. The statue was discovered in 1849 in Trastevere.
