Description:
Roman mosaic from a cubiculum in the House of the Faun (Casa del Fauno, VI 12, 2-5) in Pompeii. This was an emblemata (central decorative motif) of a floor. It is now displayed in the Secret Cabinet (Gabinetto Segreto) of the museum. The House of the Faun is the largest house in Pompeii covering 3,000 sq. meters and occupying a whole Insula. It was built between 180 and 170 BCE and remained largely unchanged until 79 CE. (Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Main_Page)
