Description:
Possibly a portrait of Demetrius of Phalerum (also Demetrius of Phaleron or Demetrius Phalereus, ca. 350-ca. 280 BCE). He was an Athenian orator originally from Phalerum, a student of Theophrastus, and perhaps of Aristotle, himself, and one of the first Peripatetics. He was a distinguished statesman who was appointed by the Macedonian king, Cassander, to govern Athens. Found in the rectangular peristyle of the Villa of the Papyri at Herculaneum.
