On the long walls are two tondi, one of Alexander saving the books of Homer (south wall), the other of the continence of Scipio (north wall). The curved vaults have six rectangles with full length standing portraits of Alexander the Great (east wall); Julius Caesar; Signifer or sign holder (south wall); Augustus (west wall); Warrior; Philip of Macedonia (north wall). The lower frieze in grisaille is late eighteenth century (the original has been lost). (Source: Palazzo Te [website]; http://www.palazzote .it)
