Description:
|
The fresco is situated on a short wall that caps the end of the semicircular wooden choir in the tribune (apse), flanking the ciborium of the high altar, on the right side. On the left side is a fresco, matching in size, of the Spello Pietà, which shows John the Apostle and Mary Magdalene kneeling either side of the Virgin Mary, who cradles the dead Christ in her lap. The two frescoes are by Perugino and the same date; both have stuccowork surrounds. Saint Biagio is Saint Blaise, a physician, and bishop of Sebastea in historical Armenia.
