Description:
Léger was a French painter, tapestry and stained glass creator, decorator, ceramist, sculptor, designer and illustrator. These tiles were mold-cast (slip cast) and decorated (painted, glazed) with different color schemes, so exist as a series of multiples. The tiles are three-dimensional, with recessed and projecting areas. This work is titled Ceramique, but another set of of the same tiles with a different color scheme is titled Les oiseaux dans le paysage. Léger would model a version and Roland Brice (a former student) created the molds. Sometimes Brice would scale up the relief to a very large size.
