A Brazilian painter, sculptor, and poet, born to a rich family. He was part of the Semana de Arte Moderna exhibition and helped form the later Brazilian Modernism. He studied and lived off and on in Paris from 1911 to 1930. This was painted in Paris. At the time of this work, he was influenced by Fernand Léger.
