Description:
|
Mask whose lower part is probably missing. The bulging eyes and the two broad fangs express the wild aspect of the demon. The face is embellished with a prominent red nose and a mustache of plant fibers. These fierce masks represent demons responsible for diseases. They are worn during therapeutic rituals (called tovil). (Source: Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac [website]; http://www.quaibranly.fr/en/)
