Notes:
REMARKS BY ROY HAMILTON (1988): Made in the Paupanda section of Ende town, about 1935. The weaver was an Ende woman married to a Banjar (from Banjarmasin, South Borneo) man who had settled in Ende town. The pattern is typical of Ende shoulder cloths of its day. This type of cloth has not been produced in Ende since WWII. This cloth was part of a group of cloths gathered together by the weaver's son and taken on a trading expedition to Makassar (now Ujung Panjang, the capital of South Sulawesi) in 1937. Cloths which remained unsold after that trip have been kept by the family ever since. The cloth has been borrowed on various occasions over the years to hang as wall decoration at Islamic weddings.
