Notes:
REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: Natural dyes. One stripe in each border is patterned with alternate black and white warp threads; a row of twining finishes one end. There is disagreement regarding the function of this cloth; it is probably too long to have been a skirt. According to original accession information from Kent Watters: "Sacrificial cloth; Cloths such as this are hung over the body of a slaughtered pig while the longhouse shaman examines the organs for signs relating to the future." According to Diane Daniel: "Probably a tourist piece."
