Description:
The 2016 display installed in the Arsenale building which included a full-scale house (the Full Fill Home) by Kundoo which showcased the potential uses of ferrocement (ferro-cement, also called thin-shell concrete). The prototype showed the house could be built in 6 days using Lego like blocks made of modular (and hollow) ferrocement blocks, which are stacked up to form walls and built-in furniture. Also on display in full-scale was the EASY WC, a toilet and shelter made from 6 prefabricated ferrocement elements that can be assembled in one day. The rest of the models (key projects from Kundoo’s 25 years in practice) highlight similar solutions for small homes that are affordable for even the most deprived regions, using locally available materials (and significantly less materials) and which are low-tech to build. Part of the exhibit was also a materials display, based on Kundoo's materials research. (Source: Anupama Kundoo [architect's website]; https://www.anupamak undoo.com/)
Image Description:
The project show-cased a range of efficient roofing systems that were first realized in Wall House, Auroville and which led to wider scale application in other projects in the local area. Ferrocement fins regulate the glare and yet allow natural ventilation.
