Description:
Originally the painting hung on the pilaster assigned to the Carpenter Guild in Orsanmichele; the guild protectoress was the Virgin of the Annunciation. The iconography of the Annunciation with the figure of Mary standing is relatively rare and first appears in the 12th century. The cusp or pinnacle panels are the Prophets Isaiah and Daniel; the predella panels are the Adoration of the Shepherds, Adoration of the Magi and the Presentation in the Temple. The main scene was painted ca. 1350 in the style of Andrea Buonaiuti, while the two prophets above and the predella are later, attributed to an early phase of Mariotto di Nardo (ca. 1388-1424).
