One of eight bust length portraits (similar sized, as noted in measurements) done in fresco on terracotta tile as a support. The subjects are SS. Catherine of Siena, Catherine of Alexandria, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, Dominic, Thomas Aquinas, Anthony Abbot, and Christ (the Ecce Homo). They are thought to have been painted by Fra Bartolommeo and his pupils for the Dominican convent of La Maddalena at Le Caldine (Pian di Mugnone). By 1701 they were in the chapel of the Giovanato at San Marco. Taken to the Accademia in 1810 when the convent was closed, and transferred back to the San Marco Museum in 1924.
