The chapel is composed of two square rooms, one larger and one smaller. The latter, known as the scarsella contains the altar, and has two small sacristies at the sides. The chapel was built by Michelozzo before 1459, on a corridor leading to the bedrooms on the first floor of the palazzo. The chapel was immediately decorated with the splendid floor of inlaid ancient marble and with a carved wooden ceiling, painted and gilded.
