Description:
The Madonna and infant Baptist adore the Christ Child, who is propped in a sitting position on a sack by an angel. The Madonna is typical of the mature production of the painter; the elegant and refined young lady gave way in favor of a more mature woman, simple and severe, in line with the spiritual climate of Savonarola. The rich colors, the firm plasticity and monumentality of the forms now seem to herald the activities of Raphael, the greatest painter among Perugino's students.
