Description:
|
Two full figure pictures of the Madonna, the Madonna in Glory and the Madonna of the Rosegarden, arrived at the Uffizi in 1782. They represent monumental seated figures filling the entire picture. In this work Mary is enthroned on clouds in a glory of seraphim. The frame is original (with some 19th century restoration). The work may have been commissioned by the Bankers Guild, as evidenced by the gold "coins" painted on the red fascia of the frame (in the shape of a tabernacle), which also appears on their coat of arms.
