Description:
This is a predella panel now separated from an (unknown) altarpiece. Variously attributed to Neroccio de Landi or to Francesco di Giorgio Martini, it may be linked to documents dated 1481 that show that Neroccio was busy painting an altarpiece commissioned by Giannino de' Bernardi, the abbot of San Salvatore a Sesto di Moriano near Lucca. The intriguing landscapes and cityscape lend a fairytale atmosphere. The painting entered the Uffizi Gallery in 1780. (Source: Uffizi Gallery [website]; https://www.virtualu ffizi.com/)
