Description:
|
The Third Style fresco was inspired by fourth century BCE figures and found together with three other similar frescoes depicting Flora (inv. 8834, also on a green background), Medea and Diana (both on a blue background) on panels situated in the middle zone of the walls of a cubiculum of the Villa Arianna, Stabiae (4.5 km southwest of Pompeii). The story of Leda relates how Zeus transformed into a swan to seduce her. (Source: Naples National Archaeological Museum [website]; http://cir.campania. beniculturali.it/mus eoarcheologiconazion ale)
