Description:
|
Guercino’s Roman period (1621-1623), short in span though it was, exerted a lasting impact on his subsequent development. His early naturalistic chiaroscuro style, so successfully practiced in Emilia, was not highly regarded in the sophisticated Roman court. This work reflects his early style; subsequently he changed his style, influenced by classicism and the style of Guido Reni. (Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordart online.com/)
