Description:
|
Coghetti was a painter and teacher. He became a member of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca in Rome in 1834. Between 1837 and 1842 he and several contemporaries from Camuccini’s circle, including Cochetti, Podesti and Natale Carta, were commissioned by Alessandro Torlonia (1800-1886) to decorate the Palazzo Torlonia (destroyed 1902) in the Piazza Venezia, the Villa Torlonia (destroyed) at Porta Pia and the Villa Torlonia in the Via Nomentana. These were his only works not commissioned by the church. This work comes from the Palazzo Torlonia, from a gallery that featured the apotheosis of Hercules and the story of Hercules and Lica.
