Description:
After the 15th century the funeral services of all of Venice's doges were held in San Zanipolo, and twenty-five doges are buried in the church. Sebastiano Venier (or Veniero) (ca. 1496 -1578) was Doge of Venice from 11 June 1577 to 3 March 1578. He is best remembered in his role as the Venetian admiral at the Battle of Lepanto (1571). His statue (in the left transept) is fittingly shown in armor with baton and sword. Antonio Dal Zòtto worked in a realist style and specialized in monuments to historic figures.
