Description:
The unknown artist is referred to as the Maestro di San Nicolò degli Albari (Master of the Church of St. Nicholas of Albari) based on stylistic comparison with a panel painting of the Madonna and Child in the church. The panels represent a rare example of Bolognese figurative culture of the early fourteenth century; they date after 1317, since St. Louis of Toulouse (canonized in 1317) is depicted among the saints.
