Description:
Allori was adopted by Bronzino, and continued Bronzino's style of Mannerist painting. On the end wall of the cenacolo (refectory) of Santa Maria Novella, Allori's work is painted above and around a work of the school of Agnolo Gaddi (ca. 1355) which shows an enthroned Madonna and Child flanked by saints. He painted a Last Supper on canvas to cover the older work; this has now been removed and reinstalled on another wall. The fresco on this wall represents God’s miracles carried out to save the Jews in flight from Egypt. These involve gifts of food from God, and so related to the Last Supper formerly below.
