Description:
Antoninus (Fra Antonino Pierozzi) had lived and worked in the convent of San Marco. This painting was originally a standard (banner) and was later framed. It has a thin layer of paint with little binder, as was usual for a standard. The original rectangular shape was modified to fit into a enormous late 15th century arched frame. It is thought to have been painted immediately after the death of Antoninus in 1459. Formerly attributed to Alesso Baldovinetti, it is now believed to be by Botticini.
