Probably a fragment of the destroyed pictorial decoration of the original Palazzo Bentivoglio (begun 1460) of the Bentivoglio rulers, a sumptuous Domus Magna destroyed by a mob in 1507. (A second palazzo was built and is still standing.) It may have been painted by Francia between 1494 and 1498, at the same time he painted two altarpieces for the Bentivoglio family (now in the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore and Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna).
