Description:
|
Executed in 1959, the Guerriero series expresses Marino Marini’s ultimate, drastic take on the subject of the horse and rider. In Guerriero, forms have assumed tragic aspects. A horse is crouching on its front legs, its neck and head stretched backwards, while the elongated figure of the rider on its back is thrust backwards into a dramatic fall. In this work, there is also the suggestion of a chariot. Both the animal and human figure appear fused. The tense forms seem to be the traces of a last, desperate gesture of escape from a fatal end. In the context of the Post-War years, Guerriero poignantly echoes the most traumatic experiences of the conflict. (Source: Christie's; http://www.christies .com/)
