Description:
The grisaille Allegory of Fertility (Florence, Uffizi) and an analogous drawing (Florence, Uffizi, 133F) have been often assigned to the years 1502-1508. [Grove] The museum dates it to ca. 1500-1502. The panel entered the Uffizi in 1894 after being purchased from Casa Tommasi in Cortona. Nothing else is known about it, however in view of the subject it was probably part of a bedstead in a nuptial bedchamber. [museum label]
