Description:
|
The Virgin and Child, either alone, with Saint Joseph or in "holy conversation" with another saint was a very common theme with Signorelli, painted in the tondo (round) format. The tondo developed as an independent form in Florence in the first half of the 15th century. Tondi paintings were produced in Florence primarily for domestic settings including bedchambers.
