Description:
|
Roman Imperial copy after a Greek Hellenistic original of the 2nd century BCE. The work depicts a lovers' quarrel between a satyr and nymph, who seeks in vain to free herself. Both heads are additions of the 17th century. The head of the satyr is believed to be a work by the young Bernini, probably inspired by the little satyr of the colossal group of Dionysus and the satyr from the Boncompagni Ludovisi Collection (inv. 8606). [Information from museum label.]
