Description:
From Falerii Veteres, the necropolis of Colonnette, Tomb 4 (CXV). Red-figure proper did not fully develop in Etruria until a generation after the rise of the South Italian Red-figure workshops. In the first of the red-figure phases (ca. 400-ca. 350 BCE) production centred at Civita Castellana (Falerii), Vulci and in northern Etruria; from Civita Castellana about 300 vases survive. The vase depicts Aurora (Eos) and Kephalos (Cephalus); Aurora kidnaps Cephalus to be her lover and they are shown in her quadriga. (Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordart online.com/)
