Description:
|
Known to come from the Monte Abatone necropolis, but without other context. Bed-shaped (kline) urn, used to hold the remains of a cremation. On the lid a female figure reclines and is shown pouring perfume from an alabastron. Well dressed, the figure wears a long chiton, characteristic Etruscan headgear (tutulus) and pointed shoes (calcei repandi); jewelry includes disc earrings, a necklace with shells, and bracelets. The shape of the face and details of the apparel show Ionic artistic influence (Greco-Etruscan) which strongly characterizes the Etruscan culture of the second half of the 6th century BCE. [Information from museum label.]
