Description:
|
The relief depicts a man on horseback, preceded by an attendant who holds the horse by the reins, while on the right side another figure raises a hat toward his head. The work is believed to be part of the funerary monument of a priest from the ancient college of the Salii, identified by his typical leather beret. The lower part of the slab has an oval opening, probably the light shaft from the original sepulcher. The relief dates to the end of the 2nd century CE. [source: museum label]
