Description:
|
Part of the 2015 "Pompeii" exhibit which featured over 220 archaeological artifacts, most from the Naples National Archaeological Museum. The exhibit was designed to immerse viewers in settings of every day life in Pompeii, complete with state-of-the-art visual effects and soundscapes. In this bronze portrait bust of Drusus Major (Nero Claudius Drusus, 38-9 BCE), the face and distinctive hairstyle imitate the appearance of Augustus, a deliberate effort to establish a family resemblance, even though the two men were not blood relations. Augustus came from the Julian family, Drusus from the Claudian family. Visual similarities between portraits became a way of legitimizing and transferring power. From Pompeii.
