Description:

On long term loan from the Ellen Williams Collection. Bellows first followed his teacher, Robert Henri, to Monhegan Island in 1912. He would return to Maine in summers frequently, later to Matinicus Isle. Matinicus is still a working fishing village but also a summer colony for artists and other visitors.
