Meant to be a private sketch, performed with fast, abbreviated and great expressive intensity. Given to the Brera in 1841 by Gaetano Cattaneo, Bossi's friend and fellow artist. Bossi was also a collector and writer. He held the post of secretary to the Accademia di Brera from 1801-1807, during which time he founded the Pinacoteca di Brera.
