Description:
|
During his last 30 years Chagall mastered stained glass, for which he adapted ancient techniques of hand-painting on the glass before firing, and with which he depicted both religious and secular subjects. He provided windows for the synagogue of the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical Centre, Jerusalem (1960-1962). The theme is the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The intensities of color that he achieved with the technical support of the stained-glass artist Charles Marq enriched his work in other media. This preparatory (test) study in glass is in a private collection. (Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordart online.com/)
