Description:
Abraham is about to sacrifice his son when the angel stops his arm. The composition, characterized by the separation of the drawing and the color, has two registers. In the higher register, is the angel, manifestation of the divine word. But on the right is also the evocation of the sufferings of the descendants of Abraham, depicted by a childbirth and the Passion of Christ. In the lower register, the group of Abraham and his son is colored by the flame of the holocaust. (Source: Chagall Museum [website]; http://en.musees-nat ionaux-alpesmaritime s.fr/chagall/)
