American painter and teacher, who organized the group of artists known as The Eight, and later the Ashcan school, known for their bold, bravura brushwork. Henri often summered in Maine and once owned a studio on Monhegan Island, which inspired his students Rockwell Kent, George Bellows and Edward Hopper. Bellows accompanied Henri in the summer of 1911, Henri's first trip back since 1903. (Source: Portland Museum of Art (PMA) [website]; http://www.portlandm useum.org)
