Description:
After 1920, Wyeth’s work as an illustrator dropped to about half its former pace, and he concentrated much of his effort on "serious paintings," which he produced more slowly. In the late 1930s and 1940s he made memorable paintings of the harsh life of farmers and fishermen in Maine. The viewpoint of this painting of herring fisherman, from above on the dock, gives the work a dramatic tension. (Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordart online.com/)
