Description:
|
The so-called Flora Farnese is a colossal statue which is part of the Farnese Collection (MANN inv. 6409). It is a Roman creation that refers to Greek prototypes of the 5th century CE. It is datable to the 2nd century CE for the belt knotted low at the hips which was a Roman fashion of that era. It captures the sinuous movements of the body covered by a thin, almost transparent dress that adheres to it as if it were wet. The statue was restored (left hand, right arm with flowers, neck) by C. Albacini as Flora (or Pomona) because of the presence of flowers on the cloak. (Source: Naples National Archaeological Museum [website]; https://www.museoarc heologiconapoli.it/e n/)
