Desiderio's tabernacle combines an illusionistic perspective relief, forming a frame for the cupboard at center, holding consecrated bread, with sculpture in the round. There are two flanking young girls holding candlesticks, and on a lunette top, two putti adore the Christ Child, who stands on a Communion chalice and holds a rose with thorns.
