Description:
|
The Spello Pietà shows John the Apostle and Mary Magdalene kneeling either side of the Virgin Mary, who cradles the dead Christ in her lap. The fresco is situated on a short wall that caps the end of the semicircular choir in the tribune (apse), flanking the ciborium of the high altar, on the left side. On the right side is a fresco, matching in size, of the Madonna and Child flanked by Saints Biago and Catherine of Alexandria, of the same date, also by Perugino. Both have stuccowork surrounds.
